Job Description

George Washington Carver Academy is hiring a Dance or   Performing Arts   Teacher (non-specific discipline) for the 2025-2026 school year. Must have Michigan Teacher Certification and endorsement.

Job Summary :

We are seeking a passionate and creative Performing Arts Teacher to join our team. This position involves teaching a variety of performing arts disciplines. The ideal candidate will inspire and engage students while promoting a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages all students to participate and express their artistic talents.

  • Plan, rehearse, and produce school performances, providing students with practical experiences in the performing arts.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with state standards and fosters creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills in students.

  • Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including performances, tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.

  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.

  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students

  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff

  • Regular and predictable attendance

Cognitive Demands:

  • Supervision of multiple students at once

  • Establishing routines and procedures

  • Maintaining a safe and orderly environment

  • Create and implement instructional plans

  • Participate in continuous professional development

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs

  • Stand and walk frequently

  • Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat

  • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year

  • Withstand a moderate noise level

  • Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary

  • Assist/lift students, as necessary

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Performing Arts, Dance, Music, Drama, Education, or a related field.

  • Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.

  • Strong performance skills and experience in directing or producing performances.

  • Passion for the arts and a commitment to fostering a positive, engaging learning environment.
