Job Description

Assemblymember Alex Bores, representing New York’s 73rd Assembly District, is seeking a dynamic and community-driven District Director to lead outreach and engagement efforts in his Manhattan office.

The District Director plays a vital role in representing the Assemblymember throughout the district—both when he is in Albany and alongside him at events when he is in the community. This individual will serve as the Assemblymember’s key liaison to constituents, neighborhood organizations, local boards, and advocacy groups.

• Serve as the Assemblymember’s primary representative in the district, staying closely connected to emerging issues and community concerns.
• Support the Constituent Services Manager with casework as needed.
• Attend full board and relevant committee meetings for Community Boards 5, 6, and 8.
• Participate in precinct council meetings for the 17th, 19th, Midtown North, and Midtown South police precincts.
• Represent the Assemblymember at Community Education Council meetings (District 2), tenant association meetings, and neighborhood organization events.
• Act as the Assemblymember’s proxy on any boards where he serves ex officio.
• Plan and execute events hosted by the Assemblymember, including 2–3 major events annually and regular monthly mobile office hours.
• Monitor local news outlets (e.g., Our Town , Upper East Site , Patch, East Side Feed ) and platforms like Nextdoor and Citizen to stay informed on district developments.
• Join the Assemblymember for weekly Friday morning subway outreach.
• Review and manage budget requests from local organizations; proactively identify potential funding recipients.
• Take the lead on special projects and initiatives assigned by the Assemblymember.
• Coordinate and manage the Assemblymember’s Youth Council program, including recruitment, planning meetings and events, facilitating youth engagement, and serving as the primary liaison between the Assemblymember’s office and council participants.
  

We’re looking for someone who is either already well-connected in the community or will immerse themselves quickly. While residency in the 73rd District is not required, proximity to Manhattan’s East Side is strongly preferred due to the number of in-person events and meetings.

• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings, to attend community meetings.
• Residency in New York State (or ability to establish residency before start date).
• Full-time, in-person availability based out of the district office near Grand Central.

• Experience in government, public service, or political campaigns—especially within New York City.
• Familiarity with or existing connections to local organizations in the 73rd District (Upper East Side through Murray Hill).

• Salary: $61,000–$67,000 annually, based on experience.
• Comprehensive New York State Assembly benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement plan, paid vacation, personal time, sick days, and all New York State holidays.
• Occasional travel to Albany is not required but will be fully reimbursed if necessary.
